If you’ve ever had your PS4 turn on by itself in the middle of the night, you’re not alone. There have been a number of reports of this happening, and it can be pretty scary (and annoying). But why does it happen, and how can you fix it? In this blog post, we’ll explore those questions and try to provide some helpful answers.

Why Does This Happen?

ps4 turns on by itself

If your PlayStation 4 turns on by itself, there are a few likely reasons why this might be the case. Some of the more common reasons include problems with power strips or cables, indicating that there is a more serious hardware issue at play. However, it’s important to remember that not all PS4s will exhibit these symptoms. In any case, here are a few things you can try before reaching out to Sony for support:

– Make sure all powering devices are plugged into the same outlet and switch them around if needed

– Reset your console by holding down the power button for 10 seconds after turning it on

– Try connecting your console to another TV if possible

If none of these solutions work, there is a possibility that your PS4 has gone bad and needs to be replaced. If you’re within the warranty period, you can take it in for repair or replacement.

However, if you’re outside of the warranty period, or if the problem isn’t covered under Sony’s terms and conditions, you’ll likely have to pay for repairs yourself.

In either case, it’s important to keep in mind that not all problems with PS4s are caused by external factors; sometimes they occur as a result of faulty hardware within the console itself. So if you experience any issues with your PlayStation 4, don’t hesitate to reach out for help.

How Can I Fix It?

Most of the time, the issue can be fixed by simply unplugging the console and resetting it. You may also need to connect the power wire from the PS4’s back to the main outlet and disconnect it when the console is off. Another fix would be to switch off the PS4 properly and switch it on again.

Check the PS4 power supply

If your PS4 turns on by itself, it could be due to a problem with the power supply. Try a different power strip or outlet. If you’re using a power strip or surge protector, it may have gone bad. Check to see if the power cord is plugged into the back of the PS4 fully. Sometimes the cause of the problem is simply just that the power cord is not plugged into the back of the PS4 fully.

You can also do the power cycle solution:

  1. Make sure the PS4 is turned off
  2. Unplug all accessories from the PS4
  3. Hold the power button for 30 seconds
  4. Wait for another two or three minutes
  5. Plug everything back in and Reboot

Check for firmware updates

firmware update

One potential cause of your PS4 turning on by itself could be outdated firmware. Firmware is the software that runs on your PS4 console, and it is occasionally updated by Sony to add new features or fix bugs. To check for a firmware update, select Settings > System Software Update. If an update is available, follow the prompts to install it.

  • Download the latest  Firmware
  • Disable automatic updates
  • Copy the latest PS4 Firmware to a USB Key
  • Install

Auto Updates

disable auto update

One reason could be that the auto updates feature is activated. To disable auto-updates:

  • Settings icon on the Home screen
  • Choose Settings
  • Go to Automatic Downloads
  • Disable the Auto-update mode

Database Issues

rebuild database
  1. The PS4 can be turned off by selecting Power from the function screen.
  2. Press and hold the power button until the second beep is heard to put the PS4 into safe mode.
  3. Use a USB cable to connect the ps4 to the ps4 controller
  4. Select the rebuild database option
  5. Wait till the ps4 restarts

Check your PS4’s hard drive

If your PS4 turns on by itself, it could be because the hard drive is not properly seated in the hard drive bay. To fix this, open up the hard drive bay and ensure that the console’s hard drive is properly seated in it. Another option is to replace the hard drive with a new one.

Try a different power outlet

One of the things that can cause your PS4 to turn on by itself is a power issue. Sometimes the power supply can go bad and cause the PS4 to turn on and off randomly. To fix this, unplug the power cable from your PS4 and plug it into a different power outlet. If this doesn’t work, you may need to replace the power supply.

Unplug all accessories from the PS4

If your PS4 turns on by itself, the first thing you should do is unplug all accessories from the console. This includes any power cables, HDMI cables, and controllers. Once all accessories are disconnected, press and hold the power button on the PS4 for 30 seconds to hard reset the console. If this doesn’t fix the problem, try disconnecting the power cable from the PS4 for at least 30 seconds and then reconnecting it.

Perform a factory reset on your PS4

If you’re PS4 has been turning on by itself, it may be time to perform a factory reset. This will wipe all data from your console and restore it to its default settings. To do this:

1. Power off your PS4 completely.

2. Press and hold the power button for 7-8 seconds to enter Safe Mode.

3. Select “Initialize PS4 (Reinstall System Software)”.

4. Follow the prompts to complete the factory reset process.

Contact Sony customer support

If your PS4 turns on by itself, there could be a few issues causing this. A damaged power cord could be one issue. Another issue could be heat-related. If your console is overheating, it may turn on and off to try and cool itself down.

A few software problems can also cause this issue. If you restart your device in Safe Mode, it may help clear up any software issues. You can also try disconnecting the power cable for at least 30 seconds and then reconnecting it. If none of these solutions work, you should contact Sony customer support.
