2023 is proving to be an excellent year for gamers as we are getting some top-tier games that are gracing our consoles and PCs. We are already 4 months in the year and have received some excellent sequels, including the much-hyped and GOTY-deserving Resident Evil 4 Remake. But we still have around 8 months left, and this means that we are going to get some really stellar sequels going forward. That is why we are going to take a look at some of the most awaited game sequels coming in 2023.

For those who are really looking forward to playing new games, this is the best article, as we are going to round up all the games that we think are on top. So, let’s not waste time and have a look.

The Most Awaited Game Sequels Coming In 2023

Now, there are a lot of sequels announced, in general. However, we are only going to include the ones that will be releasing this year. So, for instance, games like Tekken 8 are not going to be mentioned in this post because we know that they will not be releasing this year. Worry not; however, you will have plenty of games to play. So, let’s go ahead and start looking.

1. Mortal Kombat 12

Now, this took me by surprise, and honestly, I was not expecting this to happen any time, but during an earnings call, a higher-up official ended up revealing that Mortal Kombat 12 will be releasing this year. Sadly, at the time of writing, there is absolutely no information on the game itself and the characters that will be making a return but considering the success of Mortal Kombat 11, which is still going strong, we can expect the next Mortal Kombat to be an excellent and bloody affair, and I cannot wait to get my hands on it.

2. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

When EA and Respawn released the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order a couple of years ago, I was surprised, to say the least. It had been a long, long time since I played a Star Wars game that I genuinely fell in love with, but the Jedi Fallen Order did that for me. So, naturally, I was over the moon when Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was announced. Considering how the game is only a couple of weeks away, I cannot contain my excitement, but I hope the sequel is better optimized than the current offering because even my $1000 prebuilt gaming PC couldn’t play Jedi Fallen Order at the graphic settings I would have liked.

3. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl

Now, I would highly suggest that you are taking this with a grain of salt, but based on a gameplay trailer from three months ago, the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is indeed releasing later this year. I am a huge fan of the original trilogy, and I think it is about time we get a proper sequel. I have never played a game that came close to what S.T.A.L.K.E.R delivers. Sure, the Metro series is a close second, but the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is about to up the ante significantly, and I can only hope that my PC can keep up.

4. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Now, I will be honest, I did not like the original as much. I felt that there were a lot of segments that broke the storytelling of the game and the pacing. However, Miles Morales was exceptional, and that gave me hope that the upcoming sequel is going to be just as good, and I cannot wait to play it. Yes, it is going to be releasing sometime this year, and while we do not have a lot of information available about when the game is going to be coming out, but we do know that it has a 2023 release date, so that is a good reason for us to be excited.

5. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom

I was never a fan of the Legend of Zelda, to be honest. However, that does not mean that I can overlook the fact that it is one of the most popular and most bankable series in the history of gaming, with a fan following that has remained loyal for years. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was an excellent adventure and perhaps one of the biggest reason so many people bought Nintendo Switch, and the newly revealed The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom is only going to up the ante for all those who are looking forward to stepping into Link’s shoes once again.

6. Street Fighter 6

Now, I have not played Street Fighter 5, but I do know that the game received a lot of support from developers and the community. To the point that if you still want to go ahead and jump into some causals or ranked matches, you can do that with ease. That is one thing that serves as a testament that Capcom loves the franchise just as much as the players do, and the same can be said about Street Fighter 6, as it looks to be one of the best fighting games that is coming out. Based on the gameplay trailers, I cannot wait for the game, and while I might not jump into it, I can surely say that this is one of the most awaited sequels.

7. Company of Heroes 3

In a world where strategy games are slowly dying, I was over the moon when I heard that Company of Heroes 3 will be releasing this year. I have played the original offerings, and I believe they are among the best, and while it does feel a bit strange to see a real-time strategy game coming out in 2023, I honestly cannot wait for the game to release because I believe that it has something to offer that so many other games don’t.

8. Alan Wake 2

It has been 13 years since we first got to play Alan Wake, and although the game, at that time, felt weird to a lot of people, it has gone down in history as a cult classic with a solid fan base. Not just that, ever since we found out that Alan Wake exists in the same universe as Remedy’s acclaimed Control, we could not be more excited. This means that Alan Wake 2 and Control 2 (which is also in development) exist in the same universe too. The game is being developed by the same folks, so we know that this is going to be a lot of fun, and I cannot wait for the game to have a gameplay trailer finally.

9.  Final Fantasy XVI

Final Fantasy, at the time of writing, is exclusive to PS5, and based on how it looks, we might not see it on other platforms, but I honestly cannot wait for the game. Final Fantasy XV was a lot of fun for those who truly enjoy the series, and I cannot wait for the next installment. Judging by the gameplay trailer that we have seen, it is going to be one of the coolest RPG games to come out, and I cannot wait to see how it turns out.

10. Dead Island 2

Dead Island 2 faced more or less a developmental hell, according to a report by FullHow. The game was initially shown back in 2015 with an iconic trailer, but after that, just kept falling apart to the point that a lot of us were under the impression that it is not really going to come out. However, the game finally has a release date and is going to release in a couple of weeks, and based on the gameplay trailer and previews that we have checked, it looks like a promising zombie slaughterhouse that fans of the original and newcomers will appreciate.

Conclusion

Considering the number of games coming out in 2023, I feel like this list is rather small. However, it is worth noting that these are just sequels that are announced for this year. We will be getting a lot of great games that would eventually come out later this year. So, if you have been waiting for some really good games, now is your time to keep looking forward.

As expected, some games on this list are exclusives, but most of them will eventually make their way to PCs, as well. So, you really do not have to worry about not getting a chance to play your favorite games.
